" Pain is a more terrible lord of mankind than
even death itself."

In the wide world of pain-relief
treatment options, one that has been successful for many chronic
back pain sufferers is Spinal Cord Stimulation.
In this therapy, electrical impulses are used to block pain
from being perceived in the brain. Instead of pain, the patient
feels a mild tingling sensation.
How does spinal stimulation work?
A small wire (called a lead) connected to a power source
is surgically implanted under the skin. Low-level electrical
signals are then transmitted through the lead to the spinal
cord or to specific nerves to block pain signals from reaching
the brain. Using a magnetic remote control, you can turn
the current on and off, or adjust the intensity. The sensations
derived from the stimulator are different for everyone;
however, most patients describe it as a pleasant tingling
feeling.
Your physician will help you determine which system is
better for you based on your condition, your lifestyle,
and how much electrical energy is required to provide you
with adequate pain relief.
Who is a good candidate for spinal stimulation?
This therapy is not for everyone. Generally, spinal cord
stimulation may be considered when:
a) Conservative treatments have not been successful.
b) Surgery is not likely to help.
c) The patient has no untreated drug addictions.
d) The patient has had a psychological evaluation.
e) The patient does not have a pacemaker or other contraindications.
f) The patient has had a successful trial period with
the spinal cord stimulator.

PAIN RELATING TO ACCIDENTS:
Chronic pain is the third largest health problem in
the United States. Estimates place its economic demands on society as
high as 90 billion dollars annually in medication, health care and lost
wages. Approximately 40% of all chronic pain syndromes are in the head
and neck region, many of them the result of an inadequate diagnosis
after an accident.
A victim can emerge from an accident with barely a
scratch and still suffer from headaches, dizziness, blurred vision,
ear and eye pain, and other debilitating ailments. Studies show that
millions of people suffer with symptoms long after their accidents.
Continuing debilitating head pain resulting from an accident or other
source that has not been fully addressed due to incomplete diagnosis
and incomplete treatment, can interfere with sleeping, eating, and the
very act of living.
A comprehensive report which details the results of
our exam, the diagnosis or rule-out diagnoses and therapeutic intervention
is provided to the Referring Provider. We try very hard to coordinate
our treatment with our patients' various specialists so that they can
feel secure in the knowledge that their treating doctors are communicating
with one another.
THE PRIMARY GOALS OF OUR TREATMENT ARE:
1 Decrease the patients pain level
2 Improve the patients level of functioning
3 Enable the patient to manage their pain by allowing them to return
to their normal routine of daily living.
